Hooray. The postman finally made it through the snow with the York ModelMaking slates. The slates were very easy to apply coming as they do with a self adhesive back. I like them - they're ideal for someone like me who is too impatient to cut my own. I wondered how secure they would be knowing I'd faff around painting and repainting trying to get the colour right. I needn't have worried - after several tries, the slates held firm.
After a bit of weathering, adding gutters, outside lights and slate signs I've gone about as far as I can until I know where to place it on the layout. I'll then need to add a wrought iron fence and gates and some fancy gate posts. I can see that being a job that'll get neglected.
You've done an absolutely too notch job on that roof. The whole building looks utterly superb. I only hope my station ends up looking half as good. What did you use for rain gear?
ReplyDeleteYou've done a lovely job of the roof, Chas. Those York Modelmaking slates are great. The colouring is exactly right (assuming my monitor is set up properly)for the colour of Blaenau Slates ... Very nice...the chapel is really outstanding, can't wait to see where it will be on the layout.
ReplyDeleteYou're very kind Lee. I can't quite get the weathering right but I'm fed up with it now so am going to leave it and hope it gets better by itself. The gutters and downpipes are from a Wills detailing pack. I really ought to make them from scratch but I'm just impatient to get on with something else.
ReplyDeleteThank you Iain. I will certainly use York ModelMaking slates/tiles again and I'm pleased that the colour turned out, eventually, to resemble real slate. More by chance than judgment though. I never feel quite in control when painting. I couldn't blog an account of how I got to the end result.
ReplyDeleteHaving looked at this again on a bigger monitor, I'd have to agree with Iain - the slates look really good. I especially like the slipped tiles to break up their regimented nature.
ReplyDeleteThe slates look fine and are ideal for a lazy person. I will use them use again but I prefer the appearance of the hand cut ones on your waiting room and station master's house.
