I have decided two things in the process. First, because I am easily distracted, building a diorama gives me a fighting chance of finishing a project. Secondly, I am far from satisfied about the way I have been modelling trees, hedges and grass. From now on I shall attempt to copy the techniques here http://radnorailways.blogspot.co.uk/
I do like the idea of the model church, which looks superb, spending time at the real one, a nice way of thanking the vicar for her help.
ReplyDeleteThank you Paul. Unfortunately I didn't judge the height of the church quite right now I come to look at it again but hopefully the congregation won't be too disappointed when they see the real thing. I'm sure they'll be polite and say nice things anyway!!
DeleteI have missed this post for some reason...this is beautiful! The backscene fits so well, a real work of art - and the church looks beautiful in such a sympathetic setting...well, it would look great anywhere as it is a superb model. Building dioramas id such a satisfying thing to do...quick results, confidence boost and without the feeling that it's all too much to get finished.
ReplyDeleteThanks as always Iain for your kind encouragement. I am quite taken with the idea of dioramas for precisely those reasons. I was inspired too by your mini diorama of the slate tramway. I fancy having a go at a small mineral mine in parallel with the Cambrian coast.
DeleteBeautiful work Chas. I saw this on my phone while holidaying up in beautiful, scenic Highland Scotland, but was unable to respond until now. An absolutely smashing job. You should be rightly proud.
ReplyDeleteHi Lee. Thanks very much. Your blog has been quiet for a few weeks, I hope you've found some time to do some more to the station building. I'm looking forward to seeing it. Cheers.
ReplyDeleteIt has been very quiet indeed, I'm afraid to say. The station building has come to a complete halt. I've started making some platform edges, but that too is slow progress.
ReplyDeleteI spotted the latest issue of Hornby Mag had a free Scalescenes signal box model inside, so I've been working on that on and off for the last week. I'm not really a huge fan of the card model/printed paper as I like a bit more relief, but it's good fun to build and I'm thinking about embellishing with some scratch built extras to lift it a bit... who knows, it might even make it to the blog...
As a congregation we love this. We would hope that it would inspire people to visit the real thing and help with our " Aspire" fund towards our major repairs.
ReplyDeleteAnn , treasurer.
Thank you, Ann and thank you for the warm welcome yesterday. The church is a real gem and I hope the Aspire project goes well. Please let me know if you think you could use the model to help with your fund raising. Best wishes to all at St John's.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely superb. Your modelling skills are an inspiration. Rgds, Bob P (Australia)
ReplyDeleteThanks Bob, you are very kind. Best wishes, Chas.
